Pascal Wehrlein topped the time sheets in the second practice of the Mexico City E-Prix, setting a 1:13.496
After winning in Mexico during Season 8, Wehrlein continued his fine form around the streets of Mexico City, denying Jean-Eric Vergne a place at the top of the times for a second time this weekend.
Only one-hundredth separated the top three times in the session with Jean-Eric Vergne and Sergio Sette Camara taking up second and third place.
The track temperature was a cool six degrees at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez with drivers having to build temperature in the harder compound Hankook tyre over several build laps.
It wasn’t until the end of the session that times began to tumble yet no one managed to get close to those set in the warmer conditions of Friday evening’s session.
Sam Bird brought out a yellow flag early in the session due to his Jaguar losing power through the Foro Sol. The Briton spent 26 minutes of the session in the pit lane.
His Jaguar team-mate Mitch Evans continued his fine form of recent years, finishing the session in fourth place with a 1:13.548.
Rookie Jake Hughes continued to impress in his Mclaren, ending the session sixth fastest and over half a second quicker than team-mate Rene Rast.
Andretti’s Jake Dennis set the fastest time on track but a track limits violation saw his time deleted and his quickest legal time being enough for seventh place.
Edouardo Mortara ended his session in the service road after losing the rear of his Maserati in a similar fashion to the incident of McLaren’s Rene Rast in FP1.
Despite being the standout stars in the pre-season Valencia test both Maserati cars struggled with Max Gunther only able to put together a lap worthy of 16th.
ABT struggled yet again with their drivers Nico Muller and Robin Frijns coming 20th and 21st respectively.
The cars are back on track at 09:40 local time for the first qualifying session of the season.
