Rossiter: Maserati expecting there is still lots to learn for Gen3

James Rossiter, Team Principal, Maserati MSG Racing

Maserati MSG Racing Team Principal James Rossiter highlights how much both he and the team still have left to learn about Gen3 despite their positive performance in the Valencia pre-season test as they look ahead to the Mexico City E-Prix this weekend.

Speaking on the test itself Rossiter said: “It was super challenging in Valencia we had a very packed schedule. We learnt a huge amount and we also figured out that there’s a huge amount left to learn with this Gen 3 car.”

The team were the quickest in a number of sessions across the test, with their new driver Max Gunther topping several of the sessions. Reflecting on the test Rossiter said, “Any time you are quick in testing it gives you some confidence”

However, Rossiter was also realistic about where the team sees themselves in the field.

“Whereas we were quick there, I’m sure the others did lots of analysis and I’m sure you’re going to see teams that have caught up or even overtaken us very quickly from Valencia to here”

Rossiter joined the team at the end of Season 8, replacing former Team Principal of then named Rokit Venturi Susie Wolff. On settling into the Monegasque outfit he said: “I’ve got an amazing team around me that has empowered me to learn.

“During the first two months, I had a lot to take on board, I feel much more confident now. I’m just trying to create the dream team, the team I would have loved to race for”

Looking ahead to the weekend Rossiter added: “At this point, there are so many unknowns. Everything is new this weekend, the race format, everything. We’re really going to be up against it, as we all are, but it’s going to be an exciting challenge”

Formula E action begins this weekend with Free Practice One starting at 16:30 local time. Keep across Motorsport Week for reports of the session and reaction.
