Haas F1 driver Magnussen unlikely to race at Daytona due to hand operation

Kevin Magnussen is unlikely to race in the Rolex 24 at Daytona in a fortnight’s time, due to the Danish driver needing surgery on his hand.

The Haas F1 Team racer was scheduled to drive the MDK Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R in the GTD class, together was his dad Jan — also a former F1 driver and accomplished sportscar winner — Mark Kvamme, and bronze-rated Trenton Estep.

However, the team will now be forced to find another driver. The hand surgery Magnussen requires is not believed to be serious, and will not affect his Haas F1 Team commitments, either for the official start of the F1 season in March, or for testing, which takes place in Bahrain on 23rd-25th February.

“I had a sore wrist so I went to the doctor to have it looked at and they found a cyst that needs to be removed now so I can be ready for the F1 season. It’s a harmless procedure, but I probably need to rest for a couple of weeks afterwards. I need to wait and see what the doctor says, but it’s unlikely that I can race at Daytona,” said the 30-year-old.
