Juan Manuel Correa will return to Formula 2 racing this weekend in Abu Dhabi, competing for Van Amersfoort Racing.
Correa last raced in F2 in 2019, with his last event to date being at Spa-Francorchamps where he was involved in a horrific accident with Anthoine Hubert.
Correa sustained substantial injuries to his legs, while Hubert lost his life.
The American-Ecuadorian driver returned to competition last year in Formula 3 with ART Grand Prix and remained with the team in 2022, scoring a podium in Zandvoort.
He finished 13th in the 2022 Drivers’ Championship.
Following his campaign in F3, Correa will round off his racing season back on the F2 grid with VAR.
“We are excited to announce Juan Manuel Correa’s return to the F2 grid,” a VAR statement said. “Taking the wheel of our #24 car, he will join his VAR teammate Amaury Cordeel for the final round of the FIA F2 Championship at the Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi!”
VAR is currently competing in its first season of F2 racing, scoring a best result of fourth at the Jeddah round earlier this year with Jake Hughes.
It sits bottom of the F2 Teams’ standings ahead of the season finale this weekend from the Yas Marina Circuit.
