Kelly Moss Road and Race will race a Porsche 911 GT3R in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship next year, the American team has announced.
In a statement to MotorsportWeek.com, the team said: “Kelly Moss continues to support Porsche and our clients across multiple racing platforms extending from Porsche Club of America, Porsche Sprint Challenge and Carrera Cup North America.
“2022 saw program expansion into IMSA’s Michelin Pilot series with a Cayman in the GS class. Our hope is to field a second Cayman in Michelin Pilot in 2023 along with expansion into the WeatherTech championship running in GTD with new 992 GT3R. While we have our eyes on GTP as soon as 2025, our focus is on winning championships in 2023.”
This will see the team campaign the brand new Porsche 911 GT3R, based on the 992 platform. The German manufacturer has been testing the car this year and first raced the car in a “test race” in the Nurburgring Endurance Series, with Frédéric Makowiecki and Julien Andlauer finishing on the podium.
It is not yet clear who drive the car in the IMSA GTD class, although in recent years Porsche has placed factory drivers at its customer teams.
Looking into the future, Kelly Moss also confirmed they were looking at racing in the new-for-2023 GTP class, possibly as soon as 2025. In 2023, Porsche will campaign two factory cars in the class, in partnership with Penske. In addition, Porsche will make two cars available for customers — one of which will be run by current Cadillac customers JDC Miller Motorsports.
