Jerome d’Ambrosio will not resume his role as Team Principal at the rebranded Maserati Formula E team.
After Susie Wolff’s departure, Jerome D’Ambrosio – who became Team Principal of Venturi in 2021, replacing Wolff as she stepped up to the role of CEO – has announced that he will also no longer continue with the rebranded Maserati Formula E team.
The decision was taken at the end of a strong 2022 campaign, which saw Edoardo Mortara competing for the title until the penultimate round of the season – and taking third in the overall standings behind Championship winner Stoffel Vandoorne and Jaguar’s Mitch Evans.
Under the lead of Wolff and D’Ambrosio, Venturi saw their most successful campaigns in Formula E – going very close to winning the drivers championship with Mortara in both seasons, and only 24 points behind their powertrain supplier Mercedes in 2022.
“After two incredible seasons, my journey with the team comes to an end,” said D’Ambrosio, thanking Wolff, Scott Swid and José M Aznar for entrusting him with the role of Team Principal.
“As I move forward to pursue new opportunities, I would like to thank everyone in the team for their work and dedication which has led us to our most competitive campaign to date last season.”
Scott Swid, principal owner and chairman of the Monaco Sports Group, was full of praise for D’Ambrosio, describing his role and work as “crucial” in helping to bring their vision for the team on track.
“I’m extremely proud of what we have achieved together, and by putting the best people in place, we’ve built a strong team with bold aspirations for the future,” said Swid.
“With this in mind, I’m excited to see what the future holds for both him and us as we edge ever closer to the start of Formula E’s next generation of competition this January.”
Maserati will debut in Formula E as “Maserati MSG (Monaco Sports Group)”, with Edoardo Mortara retaining his seat within the Monegasque outlet. After Lucas Di Grassi signed to race with Mahindra for Season 9, Mortara’s new team-mate – along with the rebranded team’s new Team Principal, are yet to be announced.
