Paretta Autosport has announced an extension to its 2022 IndyCar plans, and will now contest a fourth race at the end of the season.
Originally announced as an single entry in this year’s Indy 500, the female-led team’s plans changed to contest a few races throughout the season instead.
Simona De Silvestro piloted the #16 entry at Road America and Mid-Ohio earlier in the summer, as well as the Music City Grand Prix this weekend.
She will now climb behind the wheel for the season finale in Laguna Seca to further expand her season participation.
Paretta Autosport was founded in 2021 by Beth Paretta with the intention of forming and growing a female-forward racing team that included women at all levels of the team.
Paretta had full support from Roger Penske, and IndyCar at large, with the series utilizing its ‘Race for Equality and Change’ initiative to provide assistance to the startup. This season the team is taking advantage of a technical partnership with Ed Carpenter Racing to expand ever further.
The eventual goal has always been to convert the team into a full time entrant in IndyCar, and that ambition appears to be getting closer to reality.
Silvestro’s car has full sidepod sponsorship for this weekend’s race in Nashville, which has given the team added resources. Further sponsorship deals are likely the reason Paretta will be able to contest a fourth race, and details of those deals will be announced at a later date.
The final race of the 2022 season takes place at Laguna Seca on September 9-11.
