Pierre Gasly will start Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix from the pit lane after taking on fresh power unit elements.
Gasly was eliminated from Q1 at the Hungaroring and was poised to start the race from 19th place.
Gasly has taken on an entirely fresh power unit, a decision which typically comes with a back-of-the-grid start, having now exceeded his 2022 allocation.
However as AlphaTauri undertook the change without the prior approval of FIA Technical Delegate Jo Bauer Gasly must now start from the pit lane.
Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez have also taken on a fresh engine, within their season’s allocation, and with permission from Bauer.
They will still line up from 10th and 11th on the grid respectively.
