Nicholas Latifi pulled a surprise as he set the quickest time during a rain-hit final practice session ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Heavy rain prior to the session left the circuit wet though conditions improved throughout the hour, allowing drivers to take on Intermediates for the final few minutes, following a red-flag period for Sebastian Vettel’s minor off.
Latifi moved to the front with a time of 1:41.480s, leaving him 0.661s clear of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who had earlier escaped undamaged following a full 360 spin through Turn 3.
The Williams driver is the only full-time racer on the grid yet to score a point in 2022.
Latifi’s shock lap was backed up by Williams team-mate Alexander Albon in third, nine-tenths down on the Canadian.
Reigning champion Max Verstappen vaulted to fourth with his final push lap while Mercedes’ George Russell took fifth.
Alpine’s Fernando Alonso narrowly edged compatriot Carlos Sainz for sixth, with Lando Norris eighth for McLaren.
Vettel wound up ninth after his accident through Turn 10; the Aston Martin driver, who had gone wide through Turn 11 on successive laps, slid through the gravel and sustained only minor damage.
Kevin Magnussen rounded out the top 10 for Haas, ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Mick Schumacher.
Qualifying for Formula 1’s Hungarian Grand Prix is scheduled for 16:00 local time
