Sheldon van der Linde won the first race of the second round of the DTM 2022 season, with a dominant victory for Schubert Motorsport in his BMW M4 GT3.
Luca Stolz finished second for HRT Mercedes-AMG, almost four seconds behind S. van der Linde.
Polesitter Lucas Auer finished third in the Team Winward Mercedes-AMG. S. van der Linde passed him at the start and never looked back, while Stolz in the Mercedes-AMG jumped Auer during the pitstops and held the position for the rest of race.
Stolz’s HRT teammate, Arjun Maini, finished fourth, just missing out on his first ever DTM podium. A fourth Mercedes-AMG, this time Maro Engel, finished 5th for GruppeM.
Championship leader proceeding this race, Mirko Bortolotti, came sixth in his Lamborghini Huracan GT3 for GRT. Laurens Vanthoor finished seventh for SSR Performance Porsche 911 GT3R, with double DTM champion Rene Rast in eighth for Team ABT Audi R8 LMS GT3.
Nick Cassidy finished ninth after leading the race fort a good portion of the 55 minute, as the Kiwi stopped late, using the alternative strategy. The AlphaTauri AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3 driver looked like he could finish higher after it started raining halfway through, but it the rain was never hard enough to require wet weather tyres.
Reigning champion Maximillian Gotz took the final point in tenth for Winward Mercedes-AMG.
