As May approaches, another Indianapolis 500 tradition is taking shape this week around downtown Indianapolis.
Special street signs with the names of each of the drivers that will be taking part in this year’s race have been produced and are now being installed around the host city.
The signs feature the race logo beside each name, and will temporarily replace the usual street markings for the duration of the festivities surrounding the marquee event.
Not only are the special signs appearing all around downtown, their installation is being supervised, and at times completed by, some of the drivers themselves.
Tony Kanaan, Marcus Ericsson, and Alex Palou have been spotted in service trucks this week helping to install their respective street signs.
Before the Month of May gets underway, all drivers slated to compete in the Indy 500 will have their own special signs erected, giving fans one more way to connect with their favorite drivers.
As of now, only 32 drivers are confirmed to be taking part in this year’s race, but one or two more entries have been rumored to be coming together as the race approaches.
If more entries than the limit of 33 attempt to qualify for the Indy 500, then there will be a special bump day qualifying session to determine who will be forced to go home without taking part in the race.
The 106th running of the Indianapolis 500 will take place on May 29, with nearly two weeks of qualifying and practice leading up to the event.
Indycar leading the way!!! I know of no such effort in F1!!!
