Qualifying for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix has been stopped temporarily following a substantial crash for Haas’ Mick Schumacher.
The incident occurred at the high-speed Turn 12 corner during Q2 as Schumacher attempted to improve his lap time.
The car speared across the track, hit the barrier on the left-hand side before bouncing back and coming to a rest on the ride side of the circuit.
F1’s medical team attended to Schumacher, where he was reported to be conscious and talking with the doctor at the scene.
He was then extracted from the car and taken to the local medical centre, with Haas stating that the driver “appears physically fine”. However, he will go to the hospital for further checks.
F1 Race Director Niels Wittich arrived to inspect the barrier after the stricken Haas car was cleared by the trackside marshals.
It marks the second crash of the session, after Williams’ Nicholas Latifi hit the wall during Q1 at Turn 13, just a handful of metres from where Schumacher would have his crash.
However, the Canadian driver was able to extract himself from his car and walk away from the crash.
