Mercedes has revealed the updated Safety Car and Medical Car that the manufacturer will provide to Formula 1 in 2022.
As per the 2021 season Mercedes and Aston Martin will share duties in supplying the vehicles through the course of the campaign.
Aston Martin will support Formula 1 at 12 of the events, starting in Australia, with the green-liveried Vantage and DBX retained as its Safety and Medical Cars respectively.
Mercedes, which will hold the role at the opening two rounds, will supply the GT Black Series as the Safety Car while the GT 63 S 4MATIC+ will act as the Medical Car.
Mercedes’ vehicles will remain in the red livery that was introduced full-time in 2021.
Bernd Maylander will remain as Formula 1’s Safety Car driver, a role he first took up in 2000.
“I’m so happy that I will once again be at the wheel of the Formula 1 safety car for the 2022 season,” said Maylander.
“I’ve already had the chance to test this amazing vehicle many times and I’m simply blown away by how close it is to a thoroughbred race car.”
The Safety Car was called into action at 15 of last year’s 22 grands prix.
