Toyota has pulled the covers off the updated version of its GR010 Hybrid Le Mans Hypercar, which the Japanese manufacturer will use to defend its crown in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
It has carried out a series of relatively minor upgrades for the second year of competition with the car, which won every round of the 2021 season en route to a world championship double.
The 2022-spec GR010 Hybrid will feature altered tyre and wheel sizes to its predecessor, with 12,5 inch wheels at the front and 14-inch wheels at the rear, in contrast to the 13-inch wheels that were fitted on both sides last year.
As a result of these changes, Toyota has made ‘small modifications’ to the body work to maintain airflow and stay within the required aerodynamic performance window. The most notable changes include a larger engine cover fin and new rear wing endplates.
The 3,5-liter V6 engine has also been adjusted to accomodate WEC’s new 100% renewable fuel.
“Everyone in the team is looking forward to start the 2022 season, especially at Sebring which is such a famous place for endurance racing,” said team principal Pascal Vasselon. “Last year we won Le Mans and the World Championships, so this is our target again.
“We found some areas to adjust the GR010 HYBRID last season so we have worked on those and I think our car will be more consistent now.”
“Thanks to everyone in Toyota, our partners and the team members for the hard work and support to be ready for the 2022 WEC season.”
“I am sure it will be an exciting year in the Hypercar class. We welcome the challenge from Peugeot, Glickenhaus and Alpine, and we look forward to giving the fans many memorable battles in the coming months. Thank you in advance for your support.”
