Carlin Racing has announced the signing of Brad Benavides, who will race for the team in the upcoming FIA Formula 3 Championship.
The American-Spanish racer last competed for Carlin in the 2021 Euroformula Open Championship, taking a best result of sixth in Barcelona.
He also spent time with Carlin in Valencia, driving for the team at last year’s post-season F3 test.
“I’ve been a die-hard fan of racing my whole life and I have, in my hands now, the greatest opportunity I’ve ever had,” Benavides said.
“I feel like, at the same time, my greatest achievements are closer than ever. I am going to give my maximum effort this season and make it one to be proud of.”
Benavides is the second driver that Carlin has announced to its 2022 F3 line-up, after it recently confirmed Williams academy driver Zak O’Sullivan to its team.
Racing director Trevor Carlin added: “Brad is still a very young driver at the start of his career. Making the step up to FIA F3 in only his second season in Europe will be a big learning curve but Brad has a fantastic attitude both in and out of the car.
“We’re delighted he has chosen to stay with the team for this next step in his career and we can’t wait to get started with testing later next month in Bahrain.”
Carlin ended the 2021 F3 Championship bottom of the Teams’ standings, scoring 25 points across the year.
