Antonio Felix da Costa led the times in free practice 2 for the Formula E Mexico City E-Prix, with the DS Techeetah driver and former champion setting a 1:07.345.
FP1’s pacesetter Andre Lotterer was only 0.041 behind, though, with da Costa’s teammate Jean-Eric Vergne in third, 0.011 off Lotterer, meaning the top three were separated by just over five hundredths of a second.
Continuing his impressive form from FP1, Nissan’s Sebastien Buemi finished the session in fourth. Nick Cassidy was the fastest of the two Envision cars in fifth, with Mitch Evans in sixth for Jaguar — a significant improvement compared to FP1.
Pascal Wehrlein was seventh, with Oliver Rowland eighth. Sam Bird was 10th, with Lucas di Grassi improving on both his and Venturi’s FP1 in 10th.
Jake Dennis just missed out on the top 10 in 11th, with Stoffel Vandoorne being the fastest Mercedes in FP2. But are the German-British team sandbagging?
Maximilian Gunther was 13th for Nissan, with Oliver Askew 14th, continuing to impress for Andretti. Dan Ticktum finished the session 15th, with Robin Frijns in a lowly 16th.
Alexander Sims was 17th, with Antonio Giovinazzi 18th — the slowest rookie. Edoardo Mortara could only manage 19th, although he did set the quickest time before it was deleted, for unknown reasons.
Nyck de Vries was 20th, although surely has more pace in the Mercedes EQ. Oliver Turvey and Sergio Sette Camara brought up the rear in 21st and 22nd.
