Formula 1 is in talks to bring a grand prix to Las Vegas from 2023, which would be the third United States race on the schedule.
According to the Sports Business Journal, an announcement could be made in the first half of 2022.
The event, should it receive the green light, is set to be a night race and would be held under the vivid lights of the famous Nevada city.
F1 has raced in Las Vegas before, around the car park of Caesars Palace in the 1980s.
In 2012, the sport added the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas to the calendar, which has been held every season since bar 2020, with that year’s event called off due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, last year’s race at COTA was reported to be the most attended grand prix event in the sport’s history.
F1 has gained substantial popularity in the US in recent years, so much so, that a second event in the country has committed long-term to the sport.
This year, the Miami Grand Prix is scheduled to make its debut on May 8 as the fifth round of the 2022 campaign.
And according to the report from SBJ, F1 officials have visited Las Vegas multiple times in recent months to seek out a deal, which would make it the third US race on the calendar.
However, any potential delay in talks could force the debut of the event to be pushed back to 2024.
F1’s calendar this year is set to have a record-breaking 23 races, with that number steadily inclining over the last decade.
Oh Boy another track in the parking lot and streets. Boring
i was there in 1983, and this ain’t THAT! This is LAS VEGAS NOW!
And we would never know the result because “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!”
The amount of races is getting ridiculous. It’s going to lose prestige on winning races and stats of new gen vs old gen.
or the “bad” locales get culled. only the strong survive
