Alexander Smolyar will remain in the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2022, competing for MP Motorsport.
The upcoming season will be the Russian’s third in the F3 series, having competed the 2020 and 2021 campaigns with ART Grand Prix.
In Smolyar’s first two years in F3, he has taken two race wins and a further three podium finishes.
Last year, he ended the season sixth in the Drivers’ Championship, scoring 107 points across 20 races.
“I’m delighted to team up with MP Motorsport for another season in FIA F3,” said Smolyar.
“Last year, I fought many duels with MP’s cars as they challenged for the podium finishes that I was aiming to achieve as well, and now we’re together, hoping to take as many wins as we possibly can.
“We’ll be preparing ourselves to the maximum before we hit the road for testing and the first round in Bahrain.”
The 2022 Formula 3 Championship will get underway in two months’ time, supporting the Formula 1 season-opener in Sakhir.
Smolyar is the first driver to be announced by MP Motorsport for the upcoming F3 campaign.
“It’s great news that Alex and SMP Racing have put their faith in MP for this year’s FIA F3 Championship,” added MP Motorsport team principal Sander Dorsman.
“Alex is arguably one of the best drivers to stay in the category for another season, and his vast knowledge of the car and the circuits will serve us well as we look forward to a strong season.”
