Red Bull junior Jonny Edgar will make the switch from Carlin to Trident for the 2022 FIA Formula 3 Championship.
The 17-year-old made his debut in F3 during the 2021 season, scoring two fifth places at Barcelona and the Red Bull Ring en route to 18th in the championship standings.
Prior to that, the Briton won the ADAC Formula 4 Championship with Van Amersfoort Racing in 2020.
“I am very happy to be able to race for Trident Motorsport in the 2022 FIA Formula 3 Championship, an extremely professional team that will surely give me the possibility to compete in the top positions in the 2022 championship,” Edgar said.
Trident took the teams championship in Formula 3 in 2021 thanks to the combined efforts of Jack Doohan, Clement Novalak and David Schumacher.
“Jonny Edgar is a driver that we followed very closely last year in the Formula 3 Championship,” team owner Maurizio Salvadori added. “Although he did not receive particular results, the English driver impressed us thanks to his qualities.
“I am therefore very happy that Johnny will be part of the Trident Team line up in 2022. I am sure that he will compete in a top championship and will be a real protagonist of the season.”
“Edgar hit the track in the Trident car in the post-season test held last November in Valencia where we were able to appreciate his talent at the wheel, his mature behavior and his impeccable professionalism”.
