Arrow McLaren SP has announced that Juan Pablo Montoya will return to the team in 2022 to contest the Indianapolis 500.
The arrangement is similar to last season, which saw the Colombian driver race with AMSP for both the Indy 500 as well as the GMR Grand Prix around the Indianapolis road course earlier in the month.
“I’m excited to return to Indianapolis with Arrow McLaren SP and Mission, to once again compete in a race that holds a special place in my heart – the Indianapolis 500,” said Montoya.
“I had a great experience with the team last year and look forward to building on the progress we made in 2021. I think we have a real shot at competing at the front of the field and challenging for the win.”
Montoya will be competing in his seventh Indy 500, and will be looking to earn his third victory around the historic 2.5-mile track.
Mission Foods, which is a major sponsor of AMSP, will serve as the primary sponsorship on the #6 entry for both races. Not to be confused with the #06 entry that Helio Castroneves will run for the entire 2022 season with Meyer Shank Racing.
“We’re delighted to have both Juan Pablo and Mission Foods back for another Indianapolis 500,” said Zak Brown, McLaren Racing CEO.
“Juan Pablo is an institution in motorsport, with two Indianapolis 500 victories and an impressive Formula 1 career with multiple wins for McLaren. He adds experience that really benefits our team, giving us another driver with the potential to win anytime he steps into the car.”
Montoya will have Pato O’Ward and Felix Rosenqvist as team-mates, reprising the trio’s partnership from last year’s May events.
The GMR Grand Prix takes place May 14, with the following two weeks being occupied be practice and qualifying for the 106th Indianapolis 500, which will be run on May 29.
