Alpine’s Esteban Ocon will start this weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix from the back of the grid after being fitted with a new Power Unit.
Ocon has taken on a fourth internal combustion engine, turbocharger and MGU-H, as well as a third MGU-K, control electronics and energy store and a ninth exhaust system, all of which exceed the penalty-free usage for a season.
It marks the first time this year that the Frenchman has had to go over the quota of components that can be used without being issued a penalty.
As the penalty total surpasses 15 places, Ocon has automatically been demoted to the rear of the field.
Ocon is the fourth driver to take a PU-related grid penalty this weekend, with Lando Norris, Lance Stroll and Yuki Tsunoda all having new elements swapped into their cars.
Williams’ George Russell will also drop five places on Sunday’s grid due to a fresh gearbox.
