Kyle Busch has been fined after a safely and behavioral violation during the Cook Out Southern 500, the first race of the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, at Darlington Raceway on Saturday night.
After contact with Austin Dillon that sent Busch into the wall in turn two on lap 125 retired Busch from the race, Busch drove his #18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota into the Darlington garage area at a speed deemed unsafe by NASCAR officials and ran over several orange cones.
As a result, Busch was determined to be in violation of sections 12.1.a, 12.5.2.5.a and 12.8.a of the 2021 Cup Series rule book — a safety violation, actions detrimental to stock car racing and a member conduct violation.
Busch was credited with a 35th-place finish in the Southern 500 and is 14th in the driver points standings with nine races remaining in the season.
