Nissan e.dams has announced the signing of Maximilian Gunther for Season 8 of the FIA Formula E World Championship.

Gunther will race alongside Sebastien Buemi and replaces Oliver Rowland, who departed the squad at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

Gunther joined the Formula E grid for the 2018-19 season at Dragon, before switching to BMW Andretti for the following season.

The German achieved his first win in the series at the 2020 Santiago EPrix, before following it up with another victory in Berlin later in the year.

Guenther finished 16th in the championship standings last season, achieving one victory at the New York EPrix. It marked his only podium of the year.

“It makes me feel very proud to become part of the Nissan e.dams family,” Gunther said.

“The team has big ambitions in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and I’m full of motivation to contribute to the success of this project.

“To compete for one of the biggest car manufacturers in the world is an honour and a great new step in my career. I’m looking forward to this exciting journey.”

The team also confirmed that Mitsunori Takaboshi will continue as its test and reserve driver, while Jann Mardenborough will remain as its official simulator driver.
