Max Verstappen fronted a Red Bull 1-2 during a wet final practice session for Formula 1’s Belgian Grand Prix.
Verstappen set a time of 1:56.924s on Intermediate tyres after heavy rain fell earlier on a cold summer’s day at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
Verstappen’s time left him 0.947s clear of Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez, whose contract extension for 2022 was confirmed on Friday.
World Champion Lewis Hamilton was third with compatriot Lando Norris fourth.
Norris was the only driver to attempt to run on slick tyres during the closing stages of the session.
But after an exploratory out-lap on Soft tyres Norris swiftly abandoned his attempt and returned to the pit lane.
Hungarian GP victor Esteban Ocon was fifth for Alpine, ahead of Aston Martin duo Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel, split by AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly.
Williams’ George Russell and Alpine’s Fernando Alonso rounded out the top 10.
Valtteri Bottas was a low-key 11th on his birthday while neither Ferrari driver troubled the front of the timesheets as Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc were 14th and 16th respectively.
Leclerc used a new chassis for the session after his original chassis sustained sizeable damage in his FP2 crash.
Several drivers ran off-track but Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Räikkönen was the only driver to suffer a major setback in the session as he encountered a brake problem that limited his running to just three laps.
Qualifying is scheduled for 15:00 local time
