Corey LaJoie will miss Sunday’s Firekeepers Casino 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway because of COVID-19 protocols. Josh Berry will drive the #7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet in place of LaJoie.
Sunday’s race will be Berry’s second as a substitute driver for Spire Motorsports in the Cup Series this season. He subbed for Justin Haley, also because of COVID-19 protocols, in the #77 Spire entry at Dover International Speedway. That race was Berry’s Cup Series debut. He finished 30th.
After racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on Friday night at Worldwide Technology Raceway at Gateway, Berry will pull double duty at Michigan in a substitute role in both races. He will sub for the injured Michael Annett behind the wheel of the #1 JR Motorsports Chevrolet on Saturday in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at MIS.
LaJoie is 29th in the Cup Series driver points standings through 24 races. He had one top-10 finish, so far, in 2021 — a ninth in the season-opening Daytona 500.
