The Macau Grand Prix will not feature Formula 3-level machinery for a second successive season owing to quarantine rules.
Formula 3 first visited Macau in 1983 and the event emerged as a traditional end-of-season spectacle for junior drivers.
But Formula 3 was unable to visit the Guia Circuit in 2020 owing to the pandemic and that situation has been replicated for 2021.
“The Government of Macau Special Administrative Region has confirmed that, for the foreseeable future, all those arriving into Macau SAR must undergo a quarantine of 21 days immediately after arrival,” read a statement from governing body the FIA.
“With the majority of competitors taking part in the FIA events coming from outside the region, this presents the drivers, teams and suppliers with conditions that are difficult to comply with.
“As a result, the FIA Formula 3 World Cup and FIA GT World Cup will not take place in 2021, with the aim of returning next year.”
This year’s Macau Grand Prix is still scheduled to take place in November and further details of the programme will be announced in due course.
In Formula 3’s absence last year the single-seater spot was taken by the Chinese Formula 4 championship.
