Laurens Vanthoor has been cleared to compete in this weekend’s round of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship at Road America, having sufficiently recovered from an injury sustained during the Spa 24 Hours.
The Belgian factory driver suffered wounds to his face and a fractured nose at Spa-Francorchamps after colliding with a quad bike in the paddock.
The collision ruled Vanthoor out of the reminder of the Belgian enduro, which he contested with KCMG alongside Maxime Martin and Nick Tandy.
Vanthoor will return to the cockpit of Pfaff Motorsports’ #9 Porsche 911 GT3 R at Road America, partnering Zacharie Robichon.
The pairing sits in fourth place in the GTD standings, behind The Heart of Racing, Turner Motorsports and Paul Miller Racing.
After Road America, the Belgian will head to France to contest the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Vanthoor will partner Cooper MacNeil and former championship-winning IMSA partner Earl Bamber aboard WeatherTech Racing’s GTE Pro Porsche 911 RSR-19.
