Max Verstappen says he is in good shape after his high-speed accident in Britain and says he is “not interested” in the ongoing drama regarding the situation.
Verstappen clashed with title rival Lewis Hamilton on the opening lap at Silverstone and suffered a 51G impact after striking the barriers exiting Copse corner.
Hamilton was deemed culpable and handed a 10-second time penalty but went on to win the race, though despite closing the points gap, the latest odds point to a Verstappen comeback in Hungary this weekend.
Red Bull senior hierarchy heaped criticism on Hamilton in the aftermath of the clash.
It was confirmed on Tuesday that Red Bull has launched a right of review process that will take place on Thursday in Hungary.
Verstappen, though, did not directly address the media, having taken a precautionary trip to hospital for checks, conveying his feelings solely through a social media post.
In Red Bull’s official preview for the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix, Verstappen was asked if he had anything he wished to communicate regarding the incident.
“I don’t have much to say on all the media hype and to be honest I am not interested in getting involved in any of that,” he said.
“I know what happened at Silverstone as I was in the car and obviously I feel a certain way about how my race ended but now I’m just focusing on making sure we are the best we can be on track so we can stay ahead in the championship.
“The team can take care of the official side of things and anything that needs looking into after the crash but my job is the same as always – to be the best I can and try to win on Sunday.”
Verstappen added that carrying out a 24-hour virtual race last weekend has helped in his recovery process.
“I’m a little bruised of course but that’s normal after such a big impact but I’m training and feeling good,” he said.
“I did a 24hr sim race this week and it was a good test to see how my body would react to spending time sat in one position and behind screens for a long time, I felt absolutely fine which makes me feel positive heading into the weekend.”
