Audi has unveiled an updated version of its R8 GT3 platform, available to teams for the 2022 season.
The car, named the Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II, is a revised version of the car that currently competes in various series around the globe, including DTM and the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship.
According to Audi, the new car is ‘more specifically tailored to the requirements of private customer teams, but the additional price is still moderate.’
Improvements for the car have focused on five specific areas: aerodynamics, engine characteristics, air conditioning, suspension and traction control.
It says that the striking rear wing is responsible for a larger amount of generated downforce compared to the car’s previous iterations.
The engine features a new intake system with improved torque characteristics, while it has been given improved suspension with four-way adjustable dampers and the traction control system has also been improved.
Teams can order the Evo II in two ways: a complete vehicle or upgrade kit for retrofitting to existing models. The price tag is 429.000 euros and the car will be on display at the Spa 24 Hours.
“The new evolution meets the needs of our customers even more,” says Chris Reinke, Head of Audi Sport customer racing. “The majority of the innovations reflect the wishes that the teams have expressed to us.”
