Alice Powell will start Round 3 of the W Series on pole position for her home-race at Silverstone after an intense qualifying session.

The winner of the opening race of the year at Austria was able to continue her brilliant start to the season by beating Fabienne Wohlwend and Jamie Chadwick who will make up the top three on the grid.

Chadwick was fastest in the opening ten minutes of the session in front of Emma Kimilainen and Bruna Tomaselli. Powell was outside the top ten at this point following an unrepresentative lap time she had set.

14 minutes remaining and Chadwick’s time at the top came to an end when Powell went significantly quicker.

It would prove to be a shootout for pole between Powell and Wohlwend, as the two kept swapping places in the closing minutes.

Ultimately, Powell’s time at the end of the session was 0.362 seconds quicker than anyone else to pick her second pole position in three races.

Wohlwend will start second followed by Chadwick in front of Beitske Visser and Kimilainen in the top five.

Narea Marti will line up sixth on the grid ahead of the next home-hero Sarah Moore.

Abbi Pulling in her maiden outing in the W Series, qualified an excellent eighth, with Marta Garcia and Jessica Hawkins rounding out the top ten.

The W Series race, part of the British Grand Prix support bill, begins on Saturday afternoon at 13:25 track time.
