Jordan Taylor took pole position for #3 Corvette in the C8.R, for the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship North East Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park, with a 49.958. His teammate, Tommy Milner, in the #4 Corvette C8.R was a tenth and a half back and while start the race alongside the team car.
The #79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 RSR could only take third in GTLM, out of three cars in total in the class, but not for lack of trying on Cooper MacNeil’s part. Midway through the session he spun at third with a kick of oversteer.
He looked like he’d got stuck in the soggy, wet, muddy grass caused by the earlier heavy rainfall over Lime Rock Park, but in a show of driving skill, managed to get traction into the rear wheels and drive away. However, moments before he got free, a red flag had been brought out, meaning MacNeil lost his fastest lap, a 50.340, and had to go again. However, he was only able to set a 50.833 once the track went back to green.
In GTD, Roman De Angelis set the fastest lap in the #23 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3, a 51.729m to go quickest. He set this very early on in the 15 minute session, then pitted. While it wasn’t clear if he had a problem or was waiting to see if others would go faster, cooling his tyres in the meanwhile, in the end it didn’t matter as no one was able to beat his time.
#14 Vasser Sullivan’s Lexuis RC F GT3’s Aaron Teliitz went second fastest in class, 0.045 slower than De Angelis. And Richard Heistand, for #39 CarBahn with Peregrine Racing Audi R8 LM3 GT3, 0.010 off Telitz, went third for tomorrow’s race grid.
Finally, the GTD Points session saw Jack Hawksworth, Telitz’s teammate in the #14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3, went fastest, with #76 Compass Racing Acura NSX GT3’s Mario Farnbacher second and Franck Perera third for #19 GRT Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini Huracan Evo GT3.
