Ricky Taylor has taken pole position for the WeatherTech 240 at Watkins Glen, leading an Acura one-two ahead of Meyer Shank Racing’s Olivier Pla.
Taylor posted a 01:30:058 to take pole in the #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Acura ARX-05, 0.346s ahead of Pla’s #60 Acura.
Kevin Magnussen took third in the #01 Chip Ganassi Cadillac DPi-VR, with Pipo Derani fourth for Whelen Engineering.
Harry Tincknell took fifth in a troublesome session that saw the #55 Mazda RT24-P strike an advertising board before bringing the car to a halt on the side of the track. Loic Duval rounded out the class in the #5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac
Keating strikes back at Thomas
In a reversal from the conclusion to the LMP2 session for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen, Ben Keating narrowly beat Steven Thomas to class pole in the closing seconds of the session.
Thomas looked to have pole secured until Keating’s #52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports ORECA 07-Gibson stole pole away right at the end, similarly to how Thomas took pole a week earlier.
The Texan’s time 01:34:949 was enough to beat Thomas’ #11 WIN Autosport ORECA to pole by 0.423s. John Farano took third in the #8 Tower Motorsports ORECA, 4.6s behind Keating.
Llarena dominates LMP3
Mateo Llarena has taken pole position in LMP3 in dominant fashion. The 17-year-old was quickest by far in the six-car session, setting a series of quick laps and putting himself well clear of the competition.
His best effort aboard the #38 Performance Tech Motorsport Ligier JS P320 was a 01:42:633, 0.735s clear of the #54 CORE Autosport Ligier of Jon Bennett.
Jarett Andretti took third in the #36 Andretti Autosport Ligier, with Theodore Olsen fourth for Dawson Racing.
Gar Robinson and Jim Cox rounded out the class in the #74 and #91 Ligiers for Riley Motorsports respectively.
Taylor on top in GTLM stalemate
Jordan Taylor has outqualified team-mate Nick Tandy in an entertaining battle for pole position in GTLM.
Both Corvettes initially seemed to struggle on the still somewhat damp track, but as the session progressed and the track dried out, times quickly began to tumble.
The two GT aces proceedes to repeatedly trade the top spot back and forth, before Taylor ultimately claimed pole position by laying down a time of 01:43:821 in the #3 Corvette C8.R, just two-tenths faster than team-mate Tandy in the #4 sister car.
Cooper MacNeil qualified third in the #79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 RSR-19.
Pole for Snow, points for Hawksworth
Madison Snow has taken GTD class pole for Paul Miller Racing in a session under treacherous conditions.
The #1 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo held the quickest time early on but was knocked down when times improved. Snow, however, recaptured the top spot in the dying seconds of the session, posting a 01:59:380 to take pole.
Frankie Montecalvo came closest to besting Snow, but the #12 Lexus RC F GT3 came up short by four-tenths of a second.
Richard Heistand manage to take third in the #39 CarBahn Racing with Peregrine Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo thanks to a late improvement.
The GTD points session was topped by Jack Hawksworth in the #14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3. The Briton took the top spot with a time of 01:46:988, half a second clear of Bill Auberlen in the #96 Turner Motorsports BMW M6 GT3.
Auberlen spun into the wall at turn six earlier in the session, but recovered to briefly lead the session before ultimately settling for second. Daniel Morad took third in the #28 Alegra Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.
