Dennis Hauger was quickest in FIA Formula 3 qualifying at the Red Bull Ring that will see the Red Bull Junior driver on pole for Race 3 on Sunday morning.
Behind the Norwegian was championship-leader Frederik Vesti and Alex Smolyar making up the top three. Reverse-grid pole for Race 1 will be taken by Logan Sargeant, who had qualified 12th.
In a very busy session that saw so many drivers’ times being deleted for track limits and traffic taking its toll, it was all about finding the best track position possible.
Vesti was fastest at the end of the first runs by 0.011 seconds ahead of Jak Crawford and Sargeant.
Whilst drivers were out on circuit warming up their tyres for the final runs, Ido Cohen stopped his Carlin Buzz Racing on the start-finish straight with a mechanical issue. This was enough to bring out the red flag with eight minutes remaining.
A few investigations pending including Reshad de Gerus, who was released into the path of Johnathan Hoggard in the pit lane prior to the stoppage.
Lap times came down once the session restarted and ultimately with a time below the one-minute 20s, Hauger was able to snatch pole away from Vesti at the chequered flag.
Fourth was Caio Collet followed by Crawford and Clement Novalak. Completing the top ten are Jack Doohan, Olli Caldwell, Arthur Leclerc and Victor Martins.
Matteo Nannini was 11th and so will line-up alongside Sargeant on the front row for Race 1.
The first race begins on Saturday morning at 10:35 track time.
