Nearly three weeks after suffering a scary crash into the barriers in Detroit, Felix Rosenqvist has been given the green light to compete in this weekend’s upcoming Honda 200 from Mid-Ohio.
Rosenqvist was a passenger when his Arrow McLaren SP Chevy suffered a stuck throttle during the first race of the weekend’s double header and careened hard into a tire barrier.
After being extracted from his car by the AMR safety team, he was transported to a Detroit hospital for observation overnight. A reported sore back was the only injury found, but recovery kept him out of the car for the next two races.
Pato O’Ward, Rosenqvists AMSP team-mate, scored his second victory of the season for race on Sunday, dedicating his win to the ailing Swede who had just been released from hospital hours earlier.
Now he has been cleared to race by the IndyCar medical team and will return to the #7 car this weekend.
In Rosenqvist’s absence, Oliver Askew and then Kevin Magnussen filled in for the next two races, each taking up duties as team-mate to O’Ward for a single race.
“Felix and Arrow McLaren SP would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Billows and the IndyCar medical team for the exceptional care and treatment they have provided,” read a statement from the team.
Rosenqvist will get his first chance to get back behind the wheel on Friday afternoon at Mid-Ohio SportsCar Course.
