Santino Ferrucci will again be driving a third car for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in this weekend’s IndyCar race from Mid-Ohio SportsCar Course.
The pairing will be the fourth such arrangement this season, following Ferrucci’s Indianapolis 500 run and both races of the Detroit GP double-header.
The outgoing driver raced with Dale Coyne Racing for three seasons, before moving away from IndyCar full time in 2021 to run a part time NASCAR Xfinity Series schedule.
The Indy 500 run was planned well in advance, but each of his successive races have come together in the weeks leading up to each race.
Ferrucci has finished in the top 10 in each of this year’s IndyCar races, including the second race from Detroit that saw the team prepare a backup in under three hours after the 23-year-old heavily damaged his primary car in qualifying.
“I’m super excited to return to Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing to race the Hy-Vee entry at Mid-Ohio,” said Ferrucci.
“It’s been a great track for me in the past and last year I started on the front row. I’ve always enjoyed the track and its fans.
“I cannot wait to be working with the team again and continuing our relationship and our growth as the season moves forward. Hopefully we can get the Hy-Vee car into the top five and on the podium!”
Ferrucci’s highest ever IndyCar qualifying position was at Mid-Ohio in 2020, where he went on to finish in 14th.
The third Rahal Letterman Lanigan entry will once again have Hy-Vee as the primary sponsor, with Mt. Dew as the secondary colors on the engine cover, similar to the Indy 500 scheme that was run back in May.
The first on-track session from Mid-Ohio will be for practice on Friday afternoon at 2:30 PM EDT.
