Porsche Formula E racer Pascal Wehrlein has been hit with a five-second time penalty, demoting him to fourth place in the Sunday’s Puebla EPrix.

The German driver finished second in the race, but an investigation into ‘power overboost’ appeared on the timing screens whilst Wehrlein was celebrating his podium finish.

More than an hour after the race finish, the stewards determined that Wehrlein had used Fanboost “improperly” during the race, and imposed a five-second time penalty, dropping him from second to fourth.

That promotes Virgin’s Nick Cassidy to second and Nissan’s Oliver Rowland to the final podium spot.

Wehrlein hasn’t had the most enjoyable weekend in Mexico after he had the race win on Saturday taken away from him for a tyre infraction, after his Porsche team failed to communicate their start tyres within the permitted time.

Wehrlein would have been leading the standings had it not been for the two penalties.
