Esmee Hawkey will join the T3 Motorsport squad driving a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 in the DTM series this year.
Hawkey participated in a test with the squad last week in Monza, leading to speculation she could secure a late entry to the series, which kicks off next weekend at the same venue.
The former W Series and Porsche Carrera Cup racer will join Esteban Muth, who had previously been confirmed in one of the two T3 Lamborghini’s.
The Briton’s car will carry ROKiT branding, which also sponsors the all-female W Series category.
“I can’t wait to get started. The DTM is such a prestigious series with so much history so to be lining up on the grid this year is really exciting,” said Hawkey.
“I owe a huge thanks to both ROKiT and T3 Motorsport for making this happen. ROKiT have once again proved that they are a progressive and forward-thinking organisation that have made it possible for me to take the next step in my career.
“T3 has a fantastic track record of developing young, driving talent and I have really enjoyed my first experiences with the team and car,” said Hawkey.
“With so little time before the first round, I know I am jumping in at the deep end but I’m excited to ramp up my preparations for the season. I know it is going to be a huge step up but it’s one I am ready to take and make the most of.”
DTM enters a new era this year and with Hawkey’s addition, will feature a 19 or 20-car grid depending on the venue, as former Formula 1 driver Christian Klien will race in select events in a McLaren 720s GT3.
Hawkey joins Sophia Floersch as the only females on the grid and the first since Susie Wolff and Rahel Frey in 2012.
