Simon Roberts has relinquished his role as Williams Team Principal with immediate effect, the Formula 1 team announced on Wednesday.
Roberts joined Williams in June 2020 and stepped up to the role of Acting Team Principal in the wake of the Williams family relinquishing ownership to Dorilton Capital a few months later.
Roberts’ interim role was made permanent for 2021 but as a result of an internal restructure he will leave the team.
Jost Capito, who joined in February as Chief Executive Officer, will take on the responsibilities of Team Principal.
Williams added that FX Demaison, who joined as Technical Director, will take accountability for both trackside and engineering divisions.
“Simon has played an integral role in managing the transition over the last 12 months and I would like to thank him for his great contribution during that time,” said Capito.
Roberts’ spell with Williams came after a lengthy stint with McLaren, which also featured a secondment to Force India.
“It has been a pleasure to take on the role of Team Principal following the departure of the Williams family from the sport,” he said.
“However, with the transition well underway I am looking forward to a new challenge and wish everyone in the team well for the future.”
Capito stepping up will be good for Williams.
