Alex Rins will miss this weekend’s Catalan Grand Prix, his home event, in the wake of a cycling accident.
The Suzuki rider, who sits 13th in the standings after four successive crashes, fell off his bicycle whilst training at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya circuit on Thursday morning.
The Spaniard injured his right arm in the fall and will require surgery, which is scheduled for Friday morning, ruling him out of competing this weekend.
“The Spaniard fell during a training lap and as a result he suffered damage to his right arm, with a large contused area and a lot of pain,” read a statement issued by his Suzuki team.
“He was quickly taken to Barcelona’s Universitari Dexeus Hospital for further examination and medical checks revealed a fracture in the radius bone. The fracture was immobilised and tomorrow morning he will undergo surgery to fix it.”
Suzuki has yet to confirm who will stand in for Rins, though test rider Sylvain Guintoli is the most likely candidate.
