Guanyu Zhou converted reverse-grid pole to claim victory in the first FIA Formula 2 Sprint Race of the weekend in Monaco.
The Alpine Academy driver was followed home by team-mate Felipe Drugovich, while Williams reserve driver Roy Nissany achieved his best ever result in the series with third.
Ralph Boschung was fourth for Campos in front of Juri Vips, Dan Ticktum, Theo Pourchaire and Oscar Piastri in eighth.
Marcus Armstrong will begin the second Sprint Race on Saturday from reverse-grid pole after overtaking Jehan Daruvala at La Rascasse on the final lap for 10th spot.
Zhou had been chased early on by fellow Alpine junior Christian Lundgaard but an engine failure halted the Dane’s charge and he was forced to retire.
It means he will start the second Sprint Race from the rear of the grid.
Zhou’s second victory of the season sees his championship lead extend to 26 points after only four of this year’s 24 races.
The next race for the series will be on Saturday at 08:20 local time.
