Sage Karam has announced he will return to IndyCar to attempt his eighth Indianapolis 500 with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing this May.
The Pennsylvania-born native will drive the No.24-Chevrolet at the 105th running of IndyCar’s most prestigious event with a new primary sponsor in the form of electricity supplier AES Indiana.
Karam arrived in IndyCar with DRR on the back of his 2013 Indy Lights title-winning campaign but would only compete at the Indy 500 the following season.
He would go on to secure ninth place at the first attempt, his best result at the event to date.
The 26-year old ran a part-time schedule with Chip Ganassi in 2015, but would not get recalled for the following year in favour of Max Chilton despite securing a podium finish at Iowa.
Since his CGR departure, Karam has returned to the Brickyard for the Indy 500 every year with DRR.
Following his 2019 outing at IMS, Karam was offered to run two events at Toronto and Iowa in a second car for Carlin but financial complications meant the deal would go no further.
DRR expanded to the four events at IMS in the 2020 season, however, no confirmation has been given if the Indiana-based outfit will run further events in 2021.
The 105th running of the Indianapolis 500 will take place on May 30.
