Santino Ferrucci will return to the NTT IndyCar Series for a one-off appearance at the 105th running of the Indianapolis 500 with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
Ferrucci raced the previous two seasons in IndyCar with Dale Coyne but left to pursue an opportunity to race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for 2021.
The 2019 Indy 500 Rookie of the year showed a proficiency for superspeedway circuits where he secured his best race finish of fourth at three events in Texas, Pocono and the 2020 Indy 500.
Midwestern supermarket chain Hy-Vee will be the primary sponsor for Ferrucci’s No.45 Honda-powered entry.
On April 8-9 Ferrucci will attend a two-day open test at IMS with Rahal and fellow team-mate and two-time winner of the prestigious race, Takuma Sato.
“I am excited to be competing in the Indianapolis 500 with Hy-Vee and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing,” said Ferrucci.
“It’s a great opportunity and I cannot thank the team, owners and partners enough for believing in me. I’m super excited to start spending some time at the shop in Indianapolis and preparing for an incredible run this May.”
Graham Rahal’s No.15 car will also feature primary sponsorship from Hy-Vee at the REV Group Grand Prix at Road America and the Bommarito Automotive 500 at Gateway.
“It’s great to have Hy-Vee back once again,” added Rahal.
“I took a lot of pride in representing them last year and felt that the Hy-Vee car performed so well at Iowa and helped get our relationship off to a good start.
“It’s nice to see a company with such high standards like Hy-Vee consider Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and consider the IndyCar Series as a great platform to spread awareness of their brand, the quality of their product and their stores.
“We’re excited to work with them and grow the partnership.”
The 105th running of the Indianapolis 500 is currently scheduled to take place on May 30.
