Seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton has dropped a hint he could be eyeing a return to England in the near-future to start a family.
The Briton is now in his 15th season and has signalled that this year could be one of his last after he signed a one-year deal to remain with Mercedes for 2021 – though it’s widely expected he will continue into 2022 at least.
Hamilton relocated to Monaco where his primary residence is, but spends his down time between the principality and his base in Colorado, but he has since bought an £18 million residence in West London which has been undergoing extensive renovations.
The 36-year-old recently said it would be nice to have a place to call ‘home’ in the UK and hinted at plans to settle down in his home country in the future to start a family.
“I live in the dream place that all the other drivers live in, in Monaco,” said Hamilton. “I do have a home in England which I’m really, really excited for it to be finished. So when I do come to England, I have finally an anchor and finally a place to call my own.
“So rather than staying in hotels, which is never particularly enjoyable, considering that’s what we do a lot through the year.
“So I think it’s the start of something great and a place that I’ll be able to naturally have my family come to, and maybe in the future, have a family.”
Another big change in Hamilton’s life is his recent split from right-hand man Marc Hynes, who has worked with Hamilton’s management company ‘Project 44’ for five years.
Explaining the split, Hamilton insists he and Marc remain close friends and will result in a restructuring of his management team.
“Marc is one of my best friends, and remains one of my best friends,” he added. “He’s moving on to do some other great things.
“We’ve had an amazing partnership together and I’m really, really grateful and proud of the work that I think we achieved together.
“I am doing some small restructuring now moving forwards and ultimately there are plans that we’re working on for the future. And so there will be someone for this potentially for the short term, and I’ll figure it out as I go along.”
