Hendrick Motorsports teammates Kyle Larson and William Byron, along with Rick Ware Racing Driver Cody Ware, will have to drop to the back for the start of the Instacart 500 at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday. The penalties are results of the three cars failed pre-race inspections twice Saturday evening.
Larson will be giving up a front-row starting position, as he was expected to start second alongside pole sitter Brad Keselowski after winning a weekend earlier at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Byron, also a 2021 race winner, also was slated to start in the top-10 in the 10th position. Ware was to start 31st on the 31-car starting grid.
The Instacart 500 is scheduled for an approximate 3:30 p.m. ET green flag Sunday.
