Jack Doohan will compete a second season in the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2021, making the switch to Trident Motorsport.
Doohan, who is backed by Red Bull, made his debut in the series last year with HWA, but failed to score any points across the campaign.
The Australian linked up with Trident at the post-season tests in Barcelona and Jerez, and will join Clement Novalak and David Schumacher this year at the team.
“I’m very pleased to join the prestige and highly competitive Trident team for the 2021 season,” Doohan said.
“Post season testing went very well and I already feel a great atmosphere between the team and myself. I can’t wait to get back to work and start the preparations for the upcoming season.”
Prior to his maiden F3 season last year, Doohan finished second in the 2019 and 2019-20 F3 Asian Championships, after competing in a handful of Formula 4 categories in 2018.
Trident Team Manager Giacomo Ricci said: “We are extremely pleased to confirm Jack in the Trident team’s FIA Formula 3 Championship line-up.
“In postseason testing in Barcelona and Jerez in October 2020, he definitely impressed the team for how quickly he adapted to the car and how he earned extremely competitive results.
“The team is proud to work with him, the son of Motorcycling World Champion Mick Doohan.
“He quickly created excellent chemistry with the technical staff and all the team members, showing great passion and determination in achieving his goals. When we talk about racing, his eyes literally glow!”
The 2021 F3 season is scheduled to begin in Barcelona this May, accompanying the F1 Spanish Grand Prix weekend.
