BT Sport has announced it will continue to hold TV rights for all three MotoGP classes for the next three years across the United Kingdom and Ireland.
BT has held the rights to show MotoGP across the British isles since 2014, meaning its latest deal with MotoGP promoter Dorna Sports will hit the decade mark by at the end of the contract.
The British broadcasting giant has provided fans with live coverage of all practice, qualifying and race sessions of all four classes- MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3 and recently the new all-electric MotoE series- for the entirety of its current tenure.
BT Sport managing director Simon Green says the organisation is “extremely proud” to continue working with Dorna to provide MotoGP to UK and Irish households for the foreseeable future.
“We are extremely proud to continue as the home of MotoGP in the UK and Ireland,” said Green.
“BT Sport has the best presentation team delivering the most comprehensive MotoGP coverage that UK fans have ever enjoyed, with every single practice, qualifying and race broadcast in full.
“I would also like to congratulate Dorna on safely and successfully completing the 2020 season, one of the most exciting we have seen, and thank them for collaborating with us to bring some great new programming to our audiences during last year’s lockdown.”
Its presenting team has shifted somewhat since it took over from Eurosport as the main British MotoGP broadcaster as ex-Dorna man Gavin Emmett and 2003 world superbike champion Neil Hodgson remain the only original incumbents.
Long-time lead commentator Keith Huewen revealed that he would step down from his duties following the end of the ’20 campaign, with his replacement yet to be announced just over a month before the planned season start in Qatar.
Hodgson and Emmett will likely continue to provide co-commentary alongside Huewen’s replacement for the MotoGP and Moto3 contests respectively, with ex-MotoGP racer Michael Laverty on Moto2 duty.
Suzi Perry will continue to provide the anchor for all BT’s MotoGP coverage, while Laverty will also continue to provide technical analysis and punditry across all three classes alongside Hodgson and Emmett.
