Era Motorsport has unveiled a special livery to be used in the upcoming Rolex 24 at Daytona, designed by a six-year-old fan.
The fan, Owen out of Ottawa, Canada, won a design contest from the team to have their design featured on its #18 ORECA 07-Gibson at the Florida endurance classic.
Era Motorsport had initially planned for the livery contest to take place focused on the 2020 Petit Le Mans, but was forced to temporarily halt the campaign when the team’s season was cut short following a crash by Dwight Merriman in practice for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
According to the team, Owen submitted his red, blue and yellow design after his father Jason came across the livery competition on IMSA’s website and printed out the template for Owen to work on while he was forced to stay home as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It was so great to see so many interesting designs from so many sports car fans and aspiring designers,” said team owner Kyle Tilley. “We hope we gave them something to do during what has been a tough time for everyone.”
“In the end, we reviewed all the images, and we knew the Owen’s drawing was the winner. He clearly loves racing, and we hope this gives him an experience he’ll never forget.”
In addition to having his design featured on the team’s car at the twice-around-the-clock enduro, Era Motorsport has invited Owen and his family to attend an IMSA event as paddock guests once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
