Romain Grosjean has revealed that he planned to wear a special helmet, designed by his three children, before being ruled out of this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Grosjean was set to exit Formula 1 after the 2020 campaign, having lost his seat at Haas, but his departure was brought forward in the wake of his fiery Bahrain accident.
Grosjean suffered a 53G impact in an accident at the start of the Bahrain race on November 29 and spent 28 seconds in fire before he was able to extricate himself.
The Haas driver targeted a return to action for his farewell event in Abu Dhabi but ultimately opted against a comeback in order to recuperate from the hand injuries he sustained.
He has now revealed the helmet design he intended to wear at the Yas Marina Circuit.
Grosjean’s seat at Haas will again be filled by reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi.
The team has recruited Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin as its 2021 drivers.
