Yuki Tsunoda triumphed in Bahrain by winning the Feature Race to pick up his third FIA Formula 2 win, in the process securing the Super Licence points he needs to graduate to Formula 2.
The Japanese started the race from pole before Nikita Mazepin got the jump on him into Turn 1.
Tsunoda was able to snatch the lead back on his second stint to lead Guanyu Zhou over the line. However, Mazepin is under investigation for excessive weaving when defending from Drugovich in the closing stages.
Failure to score maximum points means Tsunoda and Mazepin are out of championship contention.
Callum Ilott came home sixth in front of title rival Mick Schumacher, who recovered well to seventh after starting 18th on the grid.
The fastest lap bonus means the German’s points margin over Ilott is 14 points going into the final of the season with only a maximum of 17 to play for.
Completing the top 10 were Jehan Daruvala in eighth and on reverse-grid pole for the Sprint Race, Dan Ticktum in ninth and Pedro Piquet in tenth.
Today’s event also confirms PREMA sealing the Teams’ Championship, the first in the current moniker of FIA Formula 2 since the days of GP2 in 2016.
The final race of the 2020 F2 campaign begins on Sunday at 15:20 local time.
