Mike Conway and Jose Maria Lopez have taken pole position for the 8 Hours of Bahrain, while United Autosports continued their impressive 2020 streak by taking pole position in LMP2.
Conway and Lopez put together an average time of 01:40:747 to put the #7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid on pole position by over seven-tenths of a second. The foundation for the time was largely laid by a very fast lap from Conway, who managed to outpace the sister Toyota by a full second.
Brendon Hartley and Kazuki Nakajima took second place in the #8 Toyota TS050 Hybrid with an average time of 01:41:498.
In LMP2, United Autosports expanded on their already mighty 2020 record by claiming another pole position. Paul di Resta opened with a 01:46:768, a time that nobody came close to touching.
The Scot then handed over to Phil Hanson, who took some time to set a flying lap. Eventually, Hanson put together a 01:48:112 despite a slide out of turn 10, which was enough for an average time of 01:47:440 to put the #22 ORECA 07-Gibson on pole position.
Gabriel Aubry and Will Stevens lined up second in the #37 Jackie Chan DC Racing ORECA 07-Gibson, wih the #36 Signatech Alpine A470-Gibson third thanks to Pierre Ragues and Thomas Laurent.
Antonio Felix da Costa and Roberto Gonzalez qualified fourth in the #38 JOTA ORECA-07 Gibson, ahead of Nyck de Vries and Frits van Eerd for Racing Team Nederland in fifth. Cetilar Racing brought up the rear in class.
